Based in Sixpenny Handley, East Dorset our family butchers business is nearing it's centenary.
We pride ourselves in providing quality local meats and fine foods. We are also able to provide a slaughter and cutting service for farmers and producers in our small abattoir.
William Clarke started our business in 1915. Prior to this William travelled with his horse and cart, selling meat throughout the local area. The original butchers shop was at the bottom of the village in Sixpenny Handley, Dorset. He then moved to number 57 High Street where the shop is to this day.
William was followed into the Butcher business by his sons Norman and Gordon. Norman’s son John has run the shop for the last 25 years.
The shop front is quite unusual with its unique carvings on either side. The carvings show ram's heads and the hind quarters of cattle. The story goes that the carvings were done by a travelling craftsman in exchange for his board and keep.
